Our world today is dominated by technology, it has touched everyone in every area of our lives. From the computers and portable handheld devices, we use to access the internet. Today, it has enabled society to quickly transfer information over long distances almost in an instant, allowing us to communicate en masse to an audience or a specific group of people. Even during the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has enabled society to continue learning and continue in becoming productive in many sectors. The key people at the forefront of the development of technologies that we use today has had a very challenging work and life balance. For one of them, Pat Gelsinger, a former Intel employee and CEO of VMWare, a software vendor that has developed cloud computing software, shaping how the internet works today. Gelsinger has developed rules to follow to be able to balance the demands of God, work, and family.
Develop a Personal Mission Statement and Goals for your life.
Create a personal mission statement. Define what you want to accomplish in life, and what you want to be known for in the mission statement. The mission statement should prioritize your personal life.
Next, create a list of goals. It goes deeper into the mission statement by defining very specific plans for it.
By prioritizing goals, one could prevent bouncing from one goal to another by accomplishing those at the utmost priority first.
Prioritize your personal time and your life.
According to Gelsinger you should always prioritize and spend personal time taking care of yourself first before you prioritize others. For many today, this helps us cope up with being burnt up with work. By satisfying taking the time to tend to our personal needs first we are able to spend better time with others or perform better at work.
Prioritize your personal relationships and your family time.
For Gelsinger, commitments to one’s family time take paramount priority over other commitments., in his example, he unintentionally scheduled a family vacation over a work commitment. He decided that his time was better spent with his family rather than work. In effect his boss, Andy Grove was angry with his decision. For Gelsinger, at the expense of workplace conflict. It is better to not have regrets with family rather than regrets at works because the family could not be replaced.
Work hard, be a great employee.
When working hard, one doesn’t necessarily have to be a workaholic. Working hard means always be 101% when at work. By being at your best you will be a great employee. This mindset among Intels employees has propelled them to what they are today. By having great employees, Intel has secured market dominance in the computer processor market. And from the perspective of the company, you will be a valuable asset.
Have mentors in your life.
Gelsinger suggested that one should have mentors in their lives. They are people who are not impressed by you, they challenge you, they are people who are committed to making you better. By having a mentor in your life, you could further improve yourself personally, your work, or other aspects of your life. In short, having a mentor helps you improve your life.
Be a clear witness
One should be responsible for the actions that they decide on doing.
