5: Vocation of a Business Leader

The majority of businesses today try to make a living by gaining profit from the sale of goods, the rendering of services, or other contractual agreements they may form. Enriching one’s self is not necessarily bad. But what happens when enriching one’s self happens at the expense and misery of other people happens?

Businesses according to the paper, should when working properly contribute to the material and spiritual well-being of society. The teaching of ethics to rising business leaders through their principles and virtues helps contribute to the common good.

To help balance the business demands of the organization with its ethical social principles, one could explore it in three stages. That is: 1.) Seeing.; 2.) Judging.; 3.) and Acting.

SEEING, both good and evil influence the challenges and opportunities in the world of business.

JUDGING, decision making is deeply rooted in the principles of the person. A good decision-maker should have respect for human dignity and service to the common good.

ACTING, when there is much more than financial success in the conduct of business the business leaders may be motivated more. For some, they integrate their spiritual life, virtues, and ethical social principles.

For me, as a Lasallian business student. I find the paper very reflective of the current state of businesses present today. To add, in the acting stage, I believe that when more than financial success is achieved in the conduct of business as an employee, I would feel more motivated to work harder and better.

The paper for me touches on many business situations and could act as an effective guide for being a more effective business leader.
